Hearing Loss Causes in Adults

There are multiple causes of adult hearing loss.  Otosclerosis, a fairly common cause in young adults, prevents the tiny bones in the ear from moving, causing conductive hearing loss. Meniere’s disease, a type of sensorineural hearing loss with unknown causes, occurs in those between 30 and 50 years old.  Dizziness and ringing in the ear are common,  and sensitivity to loud sounds may also occur. The hearing loss may be intermittent, with some loss permanent.  An autoimmune disorder in which  the body attacks itself may also cause rapid hearing loss.  It is imperative to consult a hearing health professional as soon as deterioration is experienced, especially if hearing loss is rapid. Immediate attention will help keep hearing loss to a minimum.
