For starters, ingesting any form of nicotine will restrict blood flow, which causes hearing loss by reducing the oxygen flow to our ears and damaging the cochlear hairs that translate sound to our brains. Even nicotine-free options are not without danger, because the chemicals used to create vape flavors are mostly unregulated and often include a chemical called propylene glycol, an alcohol-based solvent whose topical use is linked to hearing loss.

  There is little FDA regulation, oversight or safety checks determining what exactly is in vape flavors. Because of this lack of oversight or regulation, at this point it is impossible for healthcare professionals or consumers to know precisely how vaping affects your health, including your hearing.
