Malnutrition can cause osteoporosis, a condition that leads to bone loss which can damage the tiny bones in the ears that conduct sound vibrations. Eating disorders also slow the heart and lower blood pressure. Healthy blood flow is vital to the proper functions of the inner ear. Rapid weight loss around the neck area can cause the Eustachian tube, the tube that connects the ears, nose, and throat, to widen and remain open when it should be closed. This can result in tinnitus and distorted sound.
