Meniere’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear that can cause dizziness, vertigo, and hearing loss. It is a chronic condition that can happen at any age, but it is most common in young and middle-aged adults. It usually affects only one ear. While the causes are unknown, the disease is the result of excessive fluid buildup and improper drainage in the inner ear. Signs and symptoms of Meniere’s disease may come and go, and the condition may be affected by disease or infection elsewhere in the body. If you are experiencing ongoing episodes of dizziness or vertigo, ringing in one ear (tinnitus), pressure in one ear, and/or hearing loss in one ear, you may have Meniere’s disease.
