What is the Frequency Factor?

Audiograms are graphs illustrating the results of pure-tone tests (hearing tests) showing the level of sound necessary at different frequencies to be audible. A patient raises his or her hand or presses a button upon hearing sound levels, creating a graph of hearing capability.  Frequency is measured in Hertz (HZ) and tested at 20, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 8000 HZ. Audiograms show patterns in hearing deficit, severity, and degree of loss. Hearing ability may be normal for low pitches but not for higher ones. The severity of hearing loss is measured in two ways: how loud something needs to be before hearing it and the frequencies that are difficult to hear.
