Telecoil Hearing Aids

Telecoils or t-coils have been used in hearing aids for decades, initially for receiving electromagnetic signals from landline telephones to improve hearing on the phone. Today’s cell phones are not a significant source of electromagnetic signals, but they do contain equipment to generate a magnetic field that works with telecoil hearing aids. The telecoils connect to hearing loops, which are assistive listening systems that exist in the public space to improve hearing loss. The loop system creates a wireless magnetic signal that is picked up by hearing aids with telecoils. When a user is inside the loop, anything broadcasted on the looped audio system is sent directly to a personal hearing device and can significantly improve hearing in these spaces.
