Treating Conductive Hearing Loss

If you’ve been diagnosed with conductive hearing loss you may be able to restore some or all of your hearing. Conductive hearing loss is caused by acute damage or blockage to the middle and/or outer ear. Conductive hearing loss does not damage the inner ear or the auditory nerve, but in some cases conductive hearing loss is permanent. A blockage caused by impacted earwax or a foreign object can often be removed non-invasively, while a sound-blocking infection can be treated with antibiotics. An abnormal growth in the ear can sometimes be surgically removed or repaired, but it is not always treatable. In these cases, middle ear implants, bone-anchored implants, or hearing aids may be used to restore hearing.
