How to Replace Hearing Aid Wax Filters

Replacing your hearing aid wax filter (also called a wax guard) is one of the most important maintenance steps to keep your device working properly. Over time, earwax can block the filter and reduce or stop sound.

This guide explains how to replace a hearing aid wax filter and when it should be changed.

When Should You Replace a Wax Filter?

You may need to replace your wax filter if you notice:

  • Reduced or no sound
  • Muffled or unclear audio
  • Visible wax buildup
  • Intermittent performance

Most users replace wax filters every 2–4 weeks, depending on use.

What You’ll Need

  • Wax filter replacement kit (brand-specific)
  • Your hearing aid
  • A clean, well-lit workspace

Step-by-Step: Replace a Hearing Aid Wax Filter

  1. Remove the dome
Gently pull the dome off the hearing aid.
  2. Remove the old filter
Use the removal tool to take out the used wax filter.
  3. Insert the new filter
Flip the tool and press the new filter into place.
  4. Secure the filter
Make sure the new filter is fully seated.
  5. Reattach the dome
Push the dome back onto the hearing aid.

Note: Steps may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.
